Social media produced a lot of fun and exciting things in 2016, from 360 degree photos and videos to Instagram Stories. All of these enhancements affect your social media strategy in some way, so it’s important to keep up to date.
Here’s a look at the top three trends that are expected to dominate 2017…
1. Live Streaming
Videos are the most engaging form of content on social media, making the introduction of Periscope and Facebook Live a real winner.
The second half of 2016 saw a dramatic rise in real-time video, thanks to the launch of Facebook Live. News profiles such as 7 News are using the feature to report on events in real-time.Victoria Police is using it to stream its press conferences, and sports organisations and teams including the AFL are using it for special announcements. It’s only going to continue to grow.
Australia is also patiently waiting for the release of Instagram Live (currently available in the US). When this drops, live streaming is going to go nuts!
2. Social Shopping
Social networks are providing brands with new and easier ways to sell their products online. There has been a shift of thinking with brands focusing on the emotions of the buyer for purchases. This concept makes the ‘online checkout’ process even quicker to limit purchasing decisions.
Instagram has teased the idea of ‘shoppable tags’ overseas, so it’s a ‘watch this space’ for 2017!
3. Augmented Reality
Augmented reality is expected to soar in popularity in 2017. Do we even need to mention Pokémon Go?
Snapchat has been using it with its Lenses, so we should expect to see the other major platforms incorporate it in some way. Facebook has already announced it is experimenting with augmented reality, so look out for some teasers throughout the year.
